History

The Block Group, with its three joint stock corporations and a series of limited companies, specialises in the fields of system catering, hotels and food products.

Our more than success story spanning 53 years goes back to the first BLOCK HOUSE steak restaurant in Hamburg-Winterhude. Our experience in the restaurant business, the passion for catering and the high quality standards gradually resulted in the group of companies as it is today. There are 54 Block House restaurants across Europe today visited by more than six million guests a year.

Jim Block, the premium burger restaurant, was founded in 1973 and currently runs twelve sites. Nine in hamburg, two in Berlin and one in Hanover.

Block House Fleischerei GmbH and Block Menü GmbH are quality food suppliers that are certified according to the International Food Standard and serve mainly external customers from the restaurant and hotel business.

The products belonging to the Block House brand – from steak pepper to American dressing – are sold by Block Foods AG and are enjoying increasing popularity in the food retail sector each year.

With the five-star Grand Elysée Hotel Hamburg built in 1985, Eugen Block fulfilled one of his dreams and once again demonstrated his flair for unique hospitality. All in all, the Block name is inseparably linked with quality and perfection in the restaurant and hotel trade.

BLOCKBRÄU is the new brewhouse located at the Landungsbrücken, a location rich in tradition in the St. Pauli district. In the best location in the Port of Hamburg, where several million people visit every year, Eugen Block has created a brewhouse with a relaxed, Hanseatic atmosphere in order to finally brew his own beer.
