The company story
The Block Gruppe, which comprises 3 corporations and a number of companies, specialises in chain catering, the hotel industry and food production. Our more than 40 years of success started with a single Block House steak restaurant in the Winterhude district of Hamburg. Over the years, our experience in operating restaurants, our passion for catering and our high quality standards have turned this single restaurant into what is now a group of companies. We currently have 42 Block House restaurants throughout Europe, which are frequented by more than seven million guests every year.
Our premium burger restaurant Jim Block was created in 1973 and there are now seven of these in Hamburg, with additional branches in the pipeline.
Two of our companies, Block House Fleischerei GmbH and Block Menü GmbH, are certified according to the International Food Standard and supply quality products to a large number of external customers in the food service and hotel industries. Block House products such as steak pepper and American dressing are marketed by Block Foods AG and are increasing in popularity in the food retail market every year.
Company founder Eugen Block fulfilled one of his own aspirations by opening the five-star Grand Elysée hotel in 1985, thereby once again demonstrating his unique flair for hospitality. All in all, the name “Block” is inextricably linked with quality and perfection in the food service and hotel industries.
